Meeting Minutes

INTERNATIONAL ACCOUNTS PAYABLE PROFESSIONALS-NORTH TEXAS CHAPTER

Quarterly meeting held on February 16, 2005 .  There were 55 attendees at this meeting.

Lunch and networking started at 11:00 .  

Don Johnson, Vice President of the NTIAPP Chapter, called the meeting to order at 11:00 .  Don stated that this was the first meeting that Sandy Champion, President of the NTIAPP Chapter, had missed since becoming the president of the local chapter.  He stated that Sandy had accepted a position with Pepsico and was out of town on business.

Don Johnson welcomed the attendees.  Don thanked Sue Hoyer of Oxy Inc and staff for facilitating the meeting and  Janet Taylor and Larry Porterfield of The Willow Creek Group for providing lunch for our quarterly meeting. 

Introductions were made and non-members were invited to fill out membership applications. 

Janet Taylor and Larry Porterfield, member of the Kansas City IAPP chapter, with The Willow Creek Group gave a short book review of Life’s Greatest Lessons 20 Things That Matter.  They brought 5 of the books to be given away as door prizes. 

Dennis Fields with DocuData introduced Tim McMullin with Kofax that presented a Power Point presentation Automation of the Accounts Payable Process. (Click here for Presentation)   Dennis stated that this presentation was worth 1.0 credit for the CAPP members.    Tim McMullin also included another PowerPoint presentation for review, Making Accounts Payable Pay Off.

Chapter business was discussed:

  • Education Committee Update – Melvina Floyd, member of the Education Committee, was ill and could not make the meeting.  Jan Wallace had flyers that Melvina had sent her about an Arts and Craft show in Frisco that she would be at with her peanut brittle.  Melvina and her sister have started a baked goodies company named Brittle Twins Candies.

  • Website Update – Barbara Coakley, Webmaster, reminded the members that their company’s website could be linked through the NTIAPP website.  Also, to make sure the member’s email is correct on the national roster.

  • Membership Update – Kimberly Addison, Membership Officer, reported that as of January 25, 2005 , the North Texas Chapter of IAPP had 181 members with 10 new members.  The new members are Tina Ben-Meir with the City of Grapevine, Linda Carr with Morning Star Foods, Amanda Dove with  Freeman, Pat Horton with Gulfstream Aerospace, Catherine Lowe with Broniec Associates Inc, Claude Martel with Sky Solutions, Brandon Newsom with Kelly Financial Resources, Mary Ann Waddell with City of Decatur, Arlora Wilson with Accor North America Corporation,  and Gloria York with Accor North America Corporation. 

  • Job Openings – Don Johnson was asked by Deborah Carter, with TXU, to ask if anyone would object for some of her people’s resumes’ that are losing their jobs be distributed to interested members, due to outsourcing the AP department.  No one objected.

  • California Independent  Contractors – Jan Wallace, Secretary of the NTIAPP Chapter, stated that California would be doing an independent contractors audit on Freeman in March.  She would let the chapter know at the next meeting how the audit went for Freeman.

  • 2005 IAPP  Forum – San Diego April 24-28, 2005 - After a consensus was taken, Don stated that the local members that are attending the Forum would get together on evening. 

2005 Meetings

May 18, 2005 meeting will be hosted by Kelly Financial Resources to be held at The City of Denton.  The discussion topic will be Outsourcing  AP to Poland presented by Deborah Carter.

August 17, 2005 meeting will be hosted by DocuData to be held at KPMG.  No topic of discussion has been set.

November 16, 2005 meeting still needed a host, location and topic of discussion

  • Keith Tarter, with Plano Technology Group, won a coaster/mouse pad calculator given by DocuData, a hairbrush given by Sally Beauty, a t-shirt given by Resulte’, a keychain given by Carter Burgess, a bag clip and puzzle pen given by PricewaterhouseCoopers, and a tote bag given by Wyndham International.

  • Don Johnson, with AllState Insurance, won a copy of Hal Urban’s Life’s Greatest Lessons 20 Things That Matter, given by The Willow Creek Group.

  • Sandi Richardson, with the City of Denton, won a coaster/mouse pad calculator given by DocuData, a DVD – Dawn of the Dead given by Blockbuster, a polo shirt given by Resulte’, a travel mug given by Freeman,  and a tote bag given by Wyndham International.  Sandi didn’t realize that you had to be a member to be eligible to be in the door prize drawing, she gave her goodies back to be given away at the next meeting.

  • Gloria York,  with Accor North America, won a copy of Hal Urban’s Life’s Greatest Lessons 20 Things That matter, given by The Willow Creek Group.

  • Patricia Maxiell, with Blockbuster, won a coaster/mouse pad calculator given by DocuData, a travel bag, first aid kit, post it notes, stress balls, bendable stick given by Concentra, and a tote bag given by Wyndham International.

  • Ladd Rowan, with Lason, won a copy of Hal Urban’s Life’s Greatest Lessons 20 Things That matter, given by The Willow Creek Group.

  • Cathy Lowe, with Broniec Associates, won a coaster/mouse pad calculator given by DocuData, a CD case given by First Choice Power, an insulated lung bag/cooler given by Hunt Oil, a travel mug given by Trammell Crow Company and a tote bag given by Wyndham International.

  • Margaret Brown, with BenefitMall, won a copy of Hal Urban’s  Life’s Greatest Lessons 20 Things That matter, given by The Willow Creek Group.

  • Darlene Myers, with Perot, won a coaster/mouse pad calculator given by DocuData, a CD case given by First Choice Power, a mini-maglite flashlight given by Hunt Oil, a wine stopper and a tote bag given by Wyndham International.

  • Jeanette Arrington, with Douglass Distributing, won a copy of Hal Urbain’s Life’s Greatest Lessons 20 Things That matter, given by The Willow Creek Group.

  • Sandy Beggs won a coaster/mouse pad calculator given by DocuData, a $20 On The Border gift certificate given by Brinker International, a calculator key chain give by Carter Burgess, a 10k gold Cross pen given by KeM, and a tote bag given by Wyndham International.

The chapter meeting adjourned at a record time, 12:30 p.m. !
