INTERNATIONAL ACCOUNTS PAYABLE PROFESSIONALS-NORTH TEXAS CHAPTER

Quarterly meeting was held on held on November 15, 2006 at Freeman in Dallas , Texas .

Lunch and networking started at 11:00 a.m.  Fifty-Five people attended.

Sandy Champion, President of the NTIAPP Chapter, called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m.  Sandy thanked the AP Department of Freeman for hosting and providing the meeting place for our quarterly meeting.  Sandy stated that she has accepted a position at Transit Mix in Dallas and her information would be updated with the national office of IAPP.  Sandy also communicated that the officers election for the term of January 1, 2007 through December 31, 2009 would be held at this meeting. A list of the offices and duties were at each place for review in case anyone else was interested in one of the offices.  Members present voted and the ballots were picked up by Betty Atkins with Hunt Oil Company.

Sandy reported that the North Texas chapter’s membership currently has196 and that Texas is the largest IAPP chapter membership base.

Introductions were made and non-members were invited to fill out membership applications.

Sandy introduced Chris Doxey, guest speaker for today’s meeting.  Chris is the Vice President, Account Management for Apex Analytix and also an IAPP member.  Chris gave a very informative presentation on Sox 404, Internal Controls, and the Controls Self-Assessment Process.  (See attached PowerPoint presentation)

Chapter Business

September 7 – Frank Abagnale Seminar

  • Sandy stated that several of the members attended the Frank Abagnale Seminar, sponsored by Office Depot that Sue Hoyer with Oxy Inc mentioned in the August meeting.  The CAPP members received CAPP credit for attending. 

2007 IAPP Forum Committee Update – Dennis Fields, chairperson of the 2007 IAPP Forum Committee, reported that the 2007 Forum will be held May 13-16 at Gaylord Texas in Grapevine.  He stated that the committee was working on getting donations from companies and asked if any of the members could ask for either donated items or monies to purchase items what is needed or to go into a goody bag for attendees for the forum.  Possibly get shirts to wear welcoming the attendees.  He stated that even if people couldn’t attend the forum that they could work the welcoming booth.  He stated that we were waiting on approval from National to hang a banner that Freeman is donating for the welcoming table with the words “Deep In The Heart of AP”.    Dennis stated that he had set up an email for the welcoming committee information, ntexasiapp@aol.com.  He also commented that Freeman had donated their phone conference line for monthly meeting of the committee and that the next phone conference would be December 19th at 10:00 a.m.

2007 IRS Mileage Rate Increase

  • Sandy reported that the IRS had set the mileage rate for 2007 at 48.5 per mile.

2007 North Texas Chapter Meetings

  • February 21, 2007 meeting will be hosted and held at AllState in Irving ; Darlene Waggoner, with AllState Insurance, will discuss Vendor Certification using Austin-Tetra.

  • May 23, 2007 meeting will be hosted and held at Blockbuster in McKinney ; Tonya Fyke, with Brinks Inc, will discuss utilities management.

  • August 22, 2007 meeting will be hosted and held KPMG in Dallas ; Carrie Chambers, with Sabre will discuss acquisition and integration of companies.

  • November 14, 2007 meeting will be hosted by Business Imaging Systems and will be held at the Infomart in Dallas ; Dennis Fields, with Business Imaging Systems, will discuss Case Study of AP Processes.

Congratulations to the following people who won door prizes:

  • Carol Raulston, with  Bowne, won post-it notes from Advantium, apron from Sally Beauty, visor from Sabre Holdings, pen FUJITSU, CD hold from First Choice Power, “The Art of the Steal”(not signed) by Frank Abagnale from Uniball Pens, and a key chain, insulated mug and bag from Carter-Burgess.

  • Barbara Coakley, with CRWW, won a cup with pens, pencil, mouse pad, and badge clip from City of Denton, flashlight and staple removers from Hunt Oil Company, notepads and pen from Perot Systems, tool kit from IAPP, “The Art of the Steal”(not signed) by Frank Abagnale from Uniball Pens, pet grooming brush from Sally Beauty and tote bag from  Freeman Companies.

  • Tiffany Walker, with Alliance Data, won a portfolio from Sally Beauty, signed copy of “The Art of the Steal” by Frank Abagnale from Uniball Pens, Uniball Pen, and a bag from Office Depot.

  • Carrie Chambers, with Sabre Holdings, won a notepad from Sally Beauty, signed copy of “The Art of the Steal” by Frank Abagnale from Uniball Pens, Uniball Pen, Lexmark Twister and a bag from Office Depot.

  • Toni Jones, with Orix USA Corporation, won a backpack, cowboy hat, photo frame, 2 “Persistence Pays” bracelets, notepad and paperweight from Concentra, a copy of “The Art of the Steal” (not signed) by Frank Abagnale from Uniball Pens.

  • Sue Hoyer, with Oxy Inc, won a notepad with pen, polo shirt, digital memo recorder, 3 pen manicure set, clothes brush and bag from IAPP and a copy of “The Art of the Steal”(not signed) by Frank Abagnale from Uniball Pens.
