Meeting Minutes

INTERNATIONAL ACCOUNTS PAYABLE PROFESSIONALS-NORTH TEXAS CHAPTER

Quarterly meeting was held on held on May 17, 2006 at Infomart, in Dallas , Texas .

Lunch and networking started at 11:00 a.m.

Don Johnson, Vice President of the NTIAPP Chapter, called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m.  Don stated that Sandy had a little accident over the weekend and would not be at the meeting.  Don thanked Dennis Fields with Business Imaging Systems for securing the meeting place and providing lunch for our quarterly meeting.  Don wanted to remind everyone to RSVP by the date deadline, that several had called within the last 24 hours. 

Introductions were made and non-members were invited to fill out membership applications.

Kimberly Addison, Membership Officer of the NTIAPP Chapter, reported that the North Texas Chapter of IAPP currently has 213 members, with 10 new members; Amber Anderson with Raytheon Company, Dorothy Gibson with Tarrant County, Texas, Marilyn Hardy, BNSF Railway Company, Gary Hutchinson with Northrop Grumman Corporation, Oded Leiba with Top Image Systems, Barbara Marcum with Barbara Marcum Consulting, Mike Poe with PRG-Schultz, Carla Sanchez with Raytheon Company, Gerri Scholl with Northrop Grumman Corporation, and  Keith Tarter with Montrose US.

Don Johnson gave the floor to Dennis Fields, with Business Imaging Systems, to present a presentation on Accounts Payable Automation.  Dennis apologized that Richard Thompson with Kofax Imaging Products could not make it the meeting but that he would keep all sales out of the presentation.  Dennis did an excellent job on presenting “Ascent for Payables” leaving out any sales pitches and just explained the automation of imaging on the front end, carrying the invoice through the workflow and  approvals, entering into the payables systems and making payment to the vendor.  See attached PowerPoint presentation.  

Forum Recap

Don Johnson stated that the 2006 IAPP Annual Forum was held in Orlando Florida , May 8-11, 2006.  Don stated that for the individuals that are new with the IAPP, this is a forum of over 1500 AP and related areas in attendance with over 300 vendors in the exhibit hall.  He further explained that IAPP members hold workshops on various topics to attend, and there were well known guest speakers during lunch.  The forum is held in Orlando every other year because the IAPP National office is located in Orlando .  With the show of hands, about ¼ of the group at the meeting attended the forum.  Dennis Fields, Chairperson from the 2007 “Welcome to Texas ” Committee, asked how the announcement of the location of the 2007 Forum went over, due to it going to be held at the Grapevine Gaylord?  Jan Wallace, Secretary for the NTIAPP, said that the song “Deep in the Heart of Texas” played and the ones from the Dallas, Austin and Houston local chapters where introduced.  Don stated that he thought there will be more in attendance next year because of the forum being more centrally located in the United States .  Dennis stated that we still needed to pick a theme and a name for the welcoming to Texas . 

Education Committee Update

Melvina Floyd, member of the Education Committee, stated that the Spring window for taking the CAPP and the CAPA had closed with 50% passing the CAPP and 75% passing the CAPA.

Website Update

Barbara Coakley, webmaster, could not be at the meeting. 

Membership Update

Kimberly Addison gave the membership report earlier in the meeting.

2006 North Texas Chapter Meetings

August 23, 2006 meeting will be hosted and held at Sabre in Southlake, will have Jeff Crilley from Fox Channel 4 News as guest speaker.

November 15, 2006 meeting will be hosted and held at Freeman in Dallas ; topic of discussion will be Petty Cash and Web Invoicing.

Don Johnson encouraged the group to offer any topics for any future meetings, just email one of the officers.

• Tina Dobbs, with Nextep, won a basketball with goal, blanket and pen from Resulte’.

• Debra Davis, with Perot Systems, clock radio tote bag from Resulte’.

The chapter meeting adjourned at 12:45 p.m.
