Meeting Minutes

INTERNATIONAL ACCOUNTS PAYABLE PROFESSIONALS-NORTH TEXAS CHAPTER

Quarterly meeting was held on August 17, 2005 at the Info Mart.

There were 65 attendees at this meeting.

Lunch and networking started at 11:00 .  

Sandy Champion, President of the NTIAPP Chapter, called the meeting to order at 11:00 and welcomed the attendees.  Sandy thanked Dennis Fields of Business Imaging Systems for getting the place to hold the meeting so quickly and thanked Bryan Szilagyi with PRG-Schultz for providing lunch for our quarterly meeting.

Introductions were made and non-members were invited to fill out membership applications. 

Chapter business was discussed:

  • Education Committee Update – Sandy stated that recertification letters for CAPP had been sent out.  The test must be retaken if certification is not renewed.  

  • Doris Steffan with Maersk spoke to the group about the CAPA (Certified Accounts Payable Associate) certification.  This certification is for the associate level individuals.  The cost for testing is $325 for non-members (handbook $63) and $150 for members (handbook $48).  The test can be taken at the remote testing locations.  The first testing window is from October 17th through November 19th.  The second testing window is from March 18th through April 13th.  The test has 100 questions and will require 40 credits over a three year period.

  • Website Update – Sandy stated that the national office was moving the email addresses to a new server.  She reminded everyone to keep their email addresses updated through the national office.

  • Membership Update – Kimberly Addison, Membership Officer, stated that Resulté has established a scholarship that will provide IAPP memberships to some of their placement clients, as a marketing effort to advance the IAPP.  She reported that as of July 26, 2005, the North Texas Chapter of IAPP had 200 members with 11 new members.  The new members are:

  •  APA Meeting – July 30th Jan Wallace with Freeman, stated that she and Sandy attended an APA sponsored seminar featuring Jeff Crilley of FOX 4 News.  Jeff has written a book on how to get free publicity for professional and civic organizations.  Sandy asked Jeff Crilley if he would speak at one of our meeting in 2006 and he agreed.

  • Sandy Champion is going to the Houston IAPP chapter to present the IRS TIN Matching System workshop.

  • A/P Recognition Week – Sandy reminded everyone that October 17 – 21, 2005 is A/P Recognition Week.  

  • 2006 IAPP Forum – Sandy reminded everyone that the 2006 IAPP Forum will be held May 7th through 11th, 2006 in Orlando .

  • 2007 IAPP Forum – Dallas - Sandy stated that the 2007 IAPP Forum is going to be at the Gaylord Texan!  She thought it would be a great idea for the Texas IAPP delegates to welcome 2007 Forum attendees with gifts as they sign in.  Dennis Fields with Business Imaging Systems offered to head a committee to develop a plan for NTIAPP making the 2007 Forum a success.  A hat was passed around for donations to help with the cost.  We also need to get local corporations to sponsor different items.  Carrie Chambers volunteered to be the treasurer to take care of the donations.  She received $88 at the meeting.

  • 2005 Meetings

November 16, 2005 meeting will be hosted by and held at Allstate Insurance Company.  The discussion topic will be OCR presented by Don Johnson with Allstate.

  • 2006 Meetings

February 15, 2006 meeting will be hosted by Denise Stackhouse with KPMG and will be held at KPMG. No topic of discussion has been set.

May 17, 2006 meeting still needs a host, location and topic of discussion.

August 23, 2006 meeting still needs a host, location and topic of discussion.

November 15, 2006 meeting still needs a host, location and topic of discussion.

Suggestions from the group for topics for the 2006 meetings were escheatment, SOX update, Jeff Crilley as a guest speaker, petty cash, and vendor information.

  • Sandy asked the local chapter officers to introduce themselves:

1099 Outsourcing Presentation

Sandy introduced Carrie Chambers with Sabre Inc.  Carrie gave an excellent Power Point presentation on the benefits of outsourcing the annual 1099s.  Her Power Point presentation is attached.

Congratulations to the following people who won door prizes:

  • Carrie Chambers, with Sabre-Holdings, won a “Dawn of the Dead” DVD given by Blockbuster, a puzzle given by Sabre-Holdings, coasters given by TXI , a clock from Fujitsu, smiley face, pencils, pens, massager, and magnifying card from IAPP, and a tote bag given by Wyndham International.

  • Marj Carrington, with Alliance Data Systems, won a baseball cap given by Freeman, a coffee cup given by Sabre-Holdings, coasters given by PricewaterhouseCoopers, a calculator given by Carter-Burgess, a note clip given by Fujitsu, a pen given by DocuData, a smiley face, massager, and magnifying card from IAPP, and a tote bag given by Wyndham International.

  • Amanda Dove , with Freeman, won a baseball cap given by Freeman, a copy of “Free Publicity” given by Jeff Crilley- FOX 4 News Reporter, a note pad and leather travel mug given by Perot Systems, a pen from DocuData, a finger ball given by Concentra, a clock given by Fujitsu, a magnifying card from IAPP, and a tote bag given by Carter-Burgess.

  • Charles Hillman, with DFW Hospital Council, won “The Graduate” DVD given by Blockbuster, a CD holder given by First Choice Power, a mouse pad with calculator given by DocuData Solutions, a pen given by Perot Systems, a clock given by Fujitsu, and a magnifying card and tote bag from IAPP.

  • Doris Steffan, with Maersk, won a shirt from Concentra, a coffee mug from Resulté Universal, a mini-maglite from Freeman, a cup, pencil, pen mouse pad, keychain, crocodile clip, badge holder, and note clip from the City of Denton and Denton TV, a screwdriver, magnifying card, and tote bag from IAPP.

  • Tina Dobbs, with Nextep Inc, won a baseball cap, two manual fans, two button-down shirts, pens, t-shirt, umbrella in a tote cube, and other goodies given by Resulté Universal.

The chapter meeting adjourned at 1:00 p.m.
