Current Minutes

Quarterly meeting was held on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at Snelling Staffing Services in Dallas , Texas .

Lunch and networking started at 11:00 a.m.

Sandy Champion, President of the NTIAPP Chapter, called the meeting to order at 11:30 a.m.  Sandy thanked Snelling Staffing Services for hosting and Perceptive Software (ImageNow) for providing lunch for our quarterly meeting.

Sandy announced that she has accepted the appointment from Thomas Bohn, IAPP Executive Director and CEO, to be on the Strategic Advisory Board. She stated that she is glad to accept and looks forward to being able to take ideas and comments from the North Texas chapter to the national level, including to the August annual meeting of this Board. This is the second person from the NTIAPP chapter who has served in this capacity. Melvina Floyd from our chapter served previously.

Attendee introductions were made and non-members were invited to fill out membership applications.

Sandy introduced our speaker, Chris Doxey, Vice President of Business Development for Business Strategy, detailing Chris’ vast experience and qualifications.

Chris Doxey’s presentation was “Decision Making for the Implementation of Shared Services, Offshored, or Outsourced Organizations.”

Chris highlighted the differences between outsourcing and offshoring, discussed the pros and cons of each, and enumerated topics to ensure they are covered in contractual agreements. She discussed change management, communication and project management techniques that are vital to a successful business relationship with your partner in these endeavors. Lastly, she discussed case studies, including a current article regarding a $1 billion fraud recently uncovered at Satyam in India . She took questions from the audience before closing her very informative and relevant presentation.

Chapter Business:

Layne Littlejohn stated that the chapter looks great at 260 members strong.

Sandy stated that Nat Goodman is presenting “The Roadmap to Streamlining Accounts Payable” on February 24 and CAPPs and CAPAs can receive 2.5 credits as well as breakfast and lunch.

Sandy directed people to the IAPP national website for the eGroups and eCalendar. She encouraged everyone to go look at the website since new information is being added all the time.

Sandy asked if anyone sent the email they received about the AR survey to their AR department. She stated that Thomas Bohn is interested in working with the AR arena since they do not have a national organization. There will be a drawing for a free admission to the annual forum in April for those IAPP members whose AR departments responded.

Sandy commented that in the current economic environment, it benefits all of us and others we know to share job openings among members. It does not have to be only AP positions. If can provide the job description to us, we can get that job posting out to the local chapter.

Sandy asked for a show of hands of who will be attending the IAPP Forum April 19-23 in Orlando , FL. Some members are going to be able to attend, but not nearly as many as in the past due to budget cuts.

There is an additional opportunity for Forum attendees to get 15 extra CAPP or CAPA credits by participating in the Item Writing Session on Thursday and Friday after the forum.

Sandy stated that the next meeting is to be held Wednesday, May 20, and Zahid Khalid will present his article, “Optimizing the Financial Supply Chain” that he had published in Cash Management. The location will be determined.

We also discussed future topics and those who can provide a location for the meetings and/or the lunch.
