Meeting Minutes

INTERNATIONAL ACCOUNTS PAYABLE PROFESSIONALS-NORTH TEXAS CHAPTER

Quarterly meeting was held on August 23, 2006 at Sabre-Holdings, in Southlake , Texas .

Lunch and networking started at 11:00 a.m.

Sandy Champion, President of the NTIAPP Chapter, called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m.  Sandy thanked Beverly Johnston with Sabre-Holdings for hosting and Don Johnson with Allstate Insurance for providing lunch for our quarterly meeting.

Introductions were made and non-members were invited to fill out membership applications.

Don Johnson, Vice President of the NTIAPP Chapter, reported that the North Texas Chapter of IAPP currently has 217 members.  Mimi Braziel with Snelling Professional Services, Shannon Burgess with Wall  Homes Inc,  Gloria Ealy with Northrop Grumman Corporation and Steve Hamilton with Sears Holdings Corporation.

Jan Wallace, Secretary of the NTIAPP Chapter, introduced our guest speaker, Jeff Crilley with FOX 4 News, he gave an excellent presentation on “How to Get Positive News Coverage”.  Darlene Waggoner with Allstate and Dennis Fields with Business Imaging Systems, received a copy of Jeff Crilley’s book, Free Publicity.

Chapter Business:

Independent Contractor Reporting

Jan Wallace reported that Texas now wants an Independent Contractor report like the California to ensure that child support is being paid by Independent Contractors.  Jan stated that Freeman is trying to see if the company could piggyback the payroll report that is currently being used or possibly outsource the report.  Jan handed out a list of important information concerning the Texas Independent Contractor Reporting.

Education Committee & CAPA Update

Melvina Floyd, member of the IAPP Education Committee, reported there were currently 459 CAPPs and 42 CAPAs .  The Fall window for taking the certification test is October 30th through November 24th.  Melvina also reported that the Department of Defense had chosen the CAPA as a pilot for their accounting personnel. That possibly be 700 people that would be required to pass the CAPA.  Melvina also reported that the new IAPP Magazine would be mailed on Monday.

Sandy reported that Goodman had a Fraud seminar coming up that would be interesting.  Sandy also stated to visit his website for other seminars.

2006 IAPP Forum – CD

Sandy wanted to make sure that everyone that attended the 2006 Forum received their CD.

2007 IAPP Workshop Registration

Sandy stated that the deadline for doing a workshop at the 2007 IAPP Forum was August 26, 2006.  Sandy stated that she and Amanda Dove with Freeman were going to do the TIN matching workshop.

2007 IAPP Forum Committee Update

Sandy stated that the 2007 Forum would be May 13-17, 2007 and that it should be the biggest conference because of the location being in the middle of the country.  Dennis Field, Chairperson of the 2007 IAPP Forum Committee, reported that we had a total of $334.34 in contributions from the members.  He stated that Dana Halter with Kofax was looking into contributing to the open house.  He stated that we needed to get more companies to commit to contributing.  Jan Wallace stated that Freeman would probably donate the welcoming sign.

North Texas IAPP Officers Election in November

Sandy stated that the officer’s election would be in November to serve January 1, 2007 through December 31, 2008, start thinking if anyone would like to serve as an officer.  The list of officers and duties were handed out.

Sandy stated that Chris Doxey, CAPP, CCSA, VP of Account Management with APEX Analytix has offered to come and give an hour presentation on various topics.

Consensus was to ask Chris to come and speak at the November 15th meeting about Internal Controls and Controls Self-Assessment Processes.

2006 North Texas Chapter Meeting

Next meeting will be November 15th hosted by and lunch provided by Freeman Companies.  With Chris Doxey possibly speaking, the topics of petty cash and web invoicing were put on hold.

Sue Hoyer announced that Office Depot was hosting Frank Abagnale at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine Texas , September 7th.  She gave the website to sign up if anyone wanted to attend.

  • Lorrie Ransom, with SPX Corporation, won a travel mug, tote bag and keychain from Carter Burgess, a pen, large zipper portfolio, and solar calculating ruler from PRG and a cap from Sabre Holdings.

  • Elsa Louis, with Cash America, won a mouse pad with wrist pad, 2 pens, squeeze ball, chocolate coins, coffee mug, circular sticky note pads, calculator, and tote bag from Nextep.

  • Sandy Champion, with Snelling, won a squeeze ball, long sleeved shirt, small bag, medical kit, mouse pad, twisty thing, and post it paper from Concentra, paper and pen from Perot Systems and a tote bag from Wyndham International.

  • Melvina Floyd, Twin Sisters Candies, won an IPOD from Kofax.

  • Dennis Fields, with Business Imaging Systems, won a bag of candy from Brittle Twins Candies.

  • Mona Botros, with Bowne, won a bag of candy from Brittle Twins Candies.

  • Melanie Beard, with the City of Denton , won a bag of candy from Brittle Twins Candies.

The chapter meeting adjourned at 1:00 p.m.
