INTERNATIONAL ACCOUNTS PAYABLE PROFESSIONALS-NORTH TEXAS CHAPTER

Quarterly meeting held on November 19, 2003.  There were 49 attendees at this meeting.

Lunch and networking started at 11:00.  

Sandy Champion, President of the NTIAPP, shared the 2003 IAPP Forum’s opening ceremony and her acceptance of the 2003 Person of the Year Award.  Congratulations again, Sandy. 

Don Johnson, Vice President of the NTIAPP, called the meeting to order and welcomed the attendees.  Don thanked Ladd Rowan, with Lason Inc for providing lunch and to Betsy Forbes and staff, with Wyndham International for providing the facility for our quarterly meeting.  Don introduced several new members of our local chapter and as of October 23rd our membership was 171. 

 Introductions were made and nonmembers were invited to fill out membership applications.

 Don Johnson introduced Ladd Rowan, with Lason Inc and Sherilyn Johnson, with Brinker International that has used Lason Inc products.  Ladd Rowan then introduced Ben Marmande, with Lason Inc who gave a Power Point presentation on Business Process Outsourcing.  Sherilyn Johnson stated that she moved from AP to being a project manager, but that she was involved in the implementation of the Lason imaging system.  Ben Marmande gave the presentation of how Lason products worked through the imaging process.  The presentation is attached.

An open discussion was held concerning 1099-MISC processing.  Several companies had looked into registering with the IRS website in order to verify Federal ID of new vendors.  In February’s meeting, we will have an open discussion on what people thought about this new feature. 

Chapter business was discussed:

  • Education Committee – Melvina Floyd, member of the Education Committee, reported on the on-line CAPP testing.

  • Website – Barbara Coakley, NTIAPP Webmaster, reported that inaccurate emails were still bouncing around.  Please make sure your email address is correct with National.

  • Frank Abagnale Seminar – Sandy reported on the Frank Abagnale Seminar that several of the members attended on  October 30th sponsored by PRG/Schultz.  She stated that he spoke on personal identity thief and that his life was portrayed on the movie Catch Me If You Can.

  • 2004 Local Mileage Change to 37.5 cents per mile

  • Orlando IAPP Forum is April 25-April 29, 2004 – Sandy reported that American Airlines had cheap airfare right now, so book as soon as possible.

Sandy stated that meetings for 2004 would be February 18th, May 19th, August 18th and November 17th.  The February 18th meeting will be held at Wyndham International and with a presentation and hosted by Dennis Fields at DocUData.

  • Everyone received a Texas shaped Texas Instruments pen from Sandy Champion.

  • Barbara Coakley, Carlson Restaurants Worldwide, won Dr Pepper/7Up Shirt, PricewaterhouseCoopers golf towel and pen and Sally’s Beauty 2 hairbrushes.

  • Amanda Roberts, Carter & Burgess, Inc, won NCH nursery stain & odor remover & prewash, simple solution stain and odor remover and multi-purpose tool.

  • Carri Adams, Resulte’ Universal, won KPMG insulated lunch bag, Freeman Companies water bottle holder and Sabre coffee mug.

  • Tonya Fyke, won The Payable Group’s “Statistical Sampling in Sales and Use Tax Audits” by Will Yancey, and Carter-Burgess calculator, cup, mug and pencil.

  • Mary Holstead, Capital Conservation Group, won Freeman Companies travel wallet, Carter-Burgess key chain and Concur Technologies candy mints.

  • Maria Gifford, FelCor Lodging Trust, won Hunt Oil large portfolio and Carlson Restaurants Worldwide $25 TGI Friday’s gift certificate.

  • Denise Stackhouse, KPMG LLP, won a Lason Inc shirt and portfolio.

  • Sue Hoyer, Oxy Inc, won a Lason Inc shirt and portfolio.

Sandy Champion wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The chapter meeting adjourned at 1:30 p.m.
