INTERNATIONAL ACCOUNTS PAYABLE PROFESSIONALS-NORTH TEXAS CHAPTER

Quarterly meeting held on May 21, 2003.  There were 48 attendees at this meeting.

Lunch and networking started at 11:00.

Sandy Champion, President of the NTIAPP, called the meeting to order, welcomed the attendees.  Sandy thanked The Freeman Companies Accounts Payable Department for providing the facility and Jason Minor with Concur Technologies for providing lunch for our quarterly meeting.  Introductions were made and non-members were invited to fill out membership applications.  Sandy stated that at the 2003 National IAPP Forum, she received the IAPP Person of the Year Award and wanted to thank everyone at the local chapter for the support.  With this recognition, she received flowers, $500 and next year’s conference paid for and a trophy.

Sandy asked Jason Minor with Concur Technologies to introduce our guest speaker, Robert Zloch, AP Director of SBC.  Jason stated that SBC had been a client of Concur Technologies since 1999.  Robert discussed how SBC utilizes Concur Technologies in processing SBC’s automated Non-PO bill payments and Employee Check Requests.  SBC currently processes Accounts Payable for 48 SBC Companies; approximately 180,000 employees across multiple organizations are using the system, and mechanically loading approximately 215,000 purchasing card transactions accounting for approximately $25,000,000.00 in processing monthly.  Robert presented a PowerPoint presentation that is available as an attachment to the minutes, and Robert answered questions from the audience.

Chapter business was discussed:

  • Education Committee – Melvina Floyd, member of the Education Committee, stated that 103 IAPP members took the CAPP exam in Seattle and normally 50% to 60% passed.  The study manuals are currently being revised.  200 different locations are being set up to take the CAPP test and results of the test would be given on-site following the completion of the test.

  • Communication Committee – Sandy gave the report for John Drew, member of the Communication Committee.  A survey was about to be distributed to the IAPP members asking for comments on the website, the newsletter, the forum and other topics.  The Communication Committee is responsible for going over every article that is published in the IAPP Newsletter.

  • Website – Sandy stated that Barbara Coakley, Webmaster, was not present, but wanted Sandy to make sure that everyone’s email address is current with the national listing.  Sandy also asked everyone to make sure, on emails, not to ask for return receipt and to change the subject line if you change the subject.

Sandy announced that Carrie Chambers with Sabre Inc was one of four companies that received an AP Enhancement Award at the 2003 IAPP Forum in Seattle.  Sandy asked Carrie to say a few words about her award.  Carrie stated that she was notified about 3 weeks before the Forum that she had won the award.  Carrie stated that Sabre is an airline travel booking solution.  Sabre outsourced their freight expenses to Accuship, over $300,000 in annual cost savings.  Sabre implemented a front-end imaging system and an automated the T & E system, reducing the staff by ˝ person.   Carrie stated that attending the IAPP Forums assisted her in receiving the awards through the exhibitors and networking.

Sandy stated that the National Forum was a good networking tool. At least 50-60 NTIAPP members representing 30 companies were at the 2003 Forum.

Our next meeting is scheduled for August 20, 2003, to be hosted by Jason Minor with Concur Technologies and will be held at Sabre, Inc in Southlake.  Topic of discussion will be Electronic Expense Statements presented by Deborah Lyons with VHA.  Also, Jennea O’Brien with PricewaterhouseCooper will have a representative give a 5-minute briefing on the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2003.  The November 19, 2003, meeting topic will be a case study on imaging to be held at the Wyndham International Corporate Offices in Dallas hosted by Ladd Rowan of Lason Inc.
